You have not yet shown the T33 interior. How does it look?

The T33 largely adheres to Gordon Murray’s design principles: a cool, yet minimalist design that focuses on the driver. Everything will be analog: no touch screens, high-quality machined aluminum rotary controls for all important functions and every key lit, because the backlight is confusing. We don’t even have steering column stems, because we prefer the thumb buttons to the steering wheel brakes.”

You said the T33 is influenced by your favorite 1960s cars. Is there a risk of copying too closely?

“I don’t think so. Together, the T33 and T50 have the original look of the GMA family that is very different from the others. But many of the greatest cars of the ’60s and ’70s were designed by engineers who weren’t as governed by rules as we are today. They could make the purest and most efficient designs. If we were smart, we could.” He did that too.”

Do you think the modern design of a supercar has become too complex?

“Yes. Many modern cars are brutal and cluttered, as if the designers are trying too hard. What’s the point of covering your car with hatches, wings, fins and ducts if you don’t need them? We go in the opposite direction, and buyers tell us they like it.”

I made very few out of the T33’s performance numbers, although they would be great. why is that?

“We don’t care about chasing trends or key performance numbers with our cars. I don’t really care if a car’s 0-60 mph time is 2.9 or 3.1 seconds or whether it’s going to 210 or 215 mph. Our buyers don’t care either. We don’t chase sales and never will. The beauty of simplicity is key to our cars.”

Plans for the new GMA headquarters

The T33 will be the first vehicle to be manufactured at Gordon Murray Automotive’s new global headquarters in Windlesham, Surrey – a 54-acre site formerly occupied by the defunct engineering consultancy Kamcorp.
