Storm Corey hits Scotland as the Met Office issues new severe weather warning

Scotland is bracing for a second storm after being hit by Storm Malik.

Weather experts at the Scottish Met Office are warning to be prepared for Storm Corey which will “bring more extremely unstable weather”.

The ‘Deep Low Pressure System’ will arrive Sunday through Monday in the UK but will specifically target the north of the country.

It comes as Storm Malik is already starting to wreak havoc with high winds.

The severe weather caused problems for rail passengers as nearly 200 trains were canceled today.

In a tweet the Met Office said: “Although Storm #Malik will take its strong #winds east from the UK later today, another deep low pressure system named #StormCorrie by #MetOffice will bring more extremely unstable weather, Especially to Scotland later Sunday to Monday. Updates will follow.”

It is expected to record high winds between 50 mph and 75 mph.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued three wind warnings the Friday before Storm Malik, and later upgraded the warning to Amber.

The storm is set to cause travel disruptions, floods and power outages with strong winds lashing the country.

Named by the Danish Meteorological Institute, Storm Malik is expected to bring winds of up to 80 mph in coastal areas, but on a broader 60 mph, as it heads east toward Denmark.

The Met Office said: “Although Storm Malik will take strong #inds far east from the UK later today, another deep low pressure system called Storm. Corrie by the Met. The office will bring more very unstable weather, Especially to Scotland later on Sunday through Monday.”
