Frank Lampard agrees to a deal to manage Everton after Farhad Moshiri’s transformation

The former Chelsea player and manager took over at Goodison Park just over a year after he was sacked at Stamford Bridge and will succeed Rafa Benitez.

Frank Lampard has agreed to a two-and-a-half-year deal to manage Everton, after what he described as quick and friendly negotiations.

His first job would be to sign at least two new signings from the Blues, with Mercy FC engaged in complicated talks to bring two potential loan deals to the club… and a possible signing.

Lampard met Everton chief Bill Kenwright in London on Sunday to explain the details of his contract, cutting off negotiations that normally take a week to 24 hours.

It was because owner Farhad Moshiri wants him in place by Monday for training when the players return – and also to have the final say on the players he wants as he looks to steer his new team away from relegation problems.

The length of the contract is surprising given it is shorter than usual for a big-name manager, but there is realism on both sides and the realization that if Lampard does well he will renegotiate a new deal.

The former England player has made it clear to the billionaire residing in Monaco that he wants to include Chelsea and Real Madrid assistant Paul Clement and Paris Saint-Germain assistant Paul Clement to Goodison.

This would raise questions about the position of current assistant manager Duncan Ferguson, who has been solid in the race to be the next manager and managed Lampard so close in the final round of interviews.

Ferguson had his supporters on the board during the operation, but eventually lost as Moshiri agonized over his decision Friday night, and ultimately decided on Saturday afternoon. It is believed that Ferguson will remain at the club, but in what role is yet to be determined.

Frank Lampard looks to ‘snipe’ Chelsea boss at Everton against Thomas Tuchel’s wishes.

The Blues’ priority as the deadline approaches is the midfielder, and it is understood that Everton have already reached an agreement in principle to bring in Donny van de Beek on loan from Manchester United.

But they had to rotate several plates, because they have already taken one local loan in this window, contracting Villa striker Anwar El Ghazi until the end of the season.

This means he is only allowed one more domestic loan deal, and there is also an interest in Tottenham’s attacking midfielder Dele Alli.

Everton cannot sign a loan, and while there are limited funds available to sign in the window, it is unlikely that they will be able to agree a fee for either before the window closes on Monday night.

But they could sign another loan from abroad, with a scenario unfolding that would see them switch to former midfielder Idrissa Gana Joy.

The Senegalese international was contacted, but the matter is complicated again, because he is currently participating in the African Cup of Nations with his country, and he was playing on Sunday night.

Lampard may be asked to choose between Van de Beek and Alli, and if Everton can agree to a loan deal for Alli, they would follow Gana Gaye as their defensive midfield option. It is also believed that Lampard wants a defender before the window closes.

The former Chelsea boss traveled to Merseyside on Sunday evening to prepare to welcome the players from a short break, as he looks to hit the ground running.
