Police in Derry are investigating an “unnotified parade” unrelated to the memorial

Police in Londonderry said they are investigating an undisclosed parade that took place in the city and was not linked to the Bloody Sunday memorial.

An unnotified procession was held in the city’s Gallagher district.

A police spokesman said officers were working to establish “any wrongdoing that may have occurred and to identify those involved”.

Earlier, the police said that the events held to mark the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday have now ended. Thousands descended on the city to mark the anniversary of the day British soldiers killed 13 civil rights protesters on January 30, 1972. Another man was shot by paratroopers that day four months later.

District Commander, Senior Superintendent Ryan Henderson said: “The planned anniversary events have come to an end today. We would like to thank the organizers for their extensive planning and all who were involved in adhering to the Marshals’ guidance and advice.

“Delays in traffic and diversions have been kept to a minimum, and we are grateful to the public for their patience.”
