More than 200 cities and towns have been affected by a “significant” 4.5-magnitude earthquake that struck the Midwest, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said Monday.
The earthquake centered in the early afternoon about 4.3 miles northwest of Medford, Oklahoma. The USGS gave the earthquake a rating of “V” on its shaking map, indicating “moderate” shaking and “very light” damage.
A dispatcher at the Medford Police Department told CNN that they “definitely felt the quake,” but had not received any reports of damage or injuries.
Larger cities like Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Wichita, Kansas, felt the “weak” shaking, according to the USGS.
The Tulsa Fire Department told CNN they had not received any calls reporting damage or injuries so far. A spokesperson for the Wichita Police Department said they had received no reports of damage or injuries and had not felt “anything significant”.
CNN has reached out to the USGS and several public safety departments for more information about the potential effects.
