Liverpool just signed another Kostas Tsimikas with Fabio Carvalho warning – John Aldridge

Signing with Luis Diaz is definitely exciting.

It’s an area where I and a lot of my fans have agreed on where the backup is needed.

Origi did a good job for us over the years when he came on as a substitute but unfortunately he got hurt a lot. The same can be said when Shakiri was here.

As for Minamino, you can’t knock it too much. But we still need more firepower.

Even when Origi goes, we need to work on it in the summer because we rely on main appetizers over and over again. We need good choices from the bench.

I’ve only seen Diaz play a few times, but he impressed him when we played Porto earlier this season. Liverpool will have done their due diligence on him and he must be a good player off the pitch and in the dressing room. We’ll wait and see how it arrives. The fact that he could play in the Champions League is another bonus.

What this transfer should do is raise the standards around the club.

I fully expect it to have the same effect on Mane that Tsimikas had on Robertson in terms of keeping his starting spot.

Mane was doing well on the right before Salah arrived and has made that place his own since he moved from Southampton. Once Salah arrived in 2017, he took that spot on the right and Mane switched sides.

In Diaz’s case, I don’t think Klopp would throw him directly. It will be on the bench to push them at first. He will want to make an immediate impact when he comes onto the pitch as a substitute and could also feature in this week’s FA Cup match. It’s a good dilemma for Klopp to face in the first match.

The likes of Firmino, Mane and Salah won’t have to worry about Diaz’s arrival because it’s all about the strength of the team. I keep talking about what Man City have done over the past few years building their squad forward, and Chelsea have done the same. You must have a sturdy seat to keep up with it.

In the summer, there will be more engagements to get things going again.

We haven’t done this in 18 months. While there is money to be spent, you can ensure that Liverpool gets money from certain players.

Harry Wilson was sold in the summer to Fulham and there are other players who will help balance the books. Looking to the future, we still need a striker and maybe another.

Carvalho’s strike is disappointing, but not disastrous

Fabio Carvalho looks like a real deal, so it was a shame we couldn’t finish this transfer on deadline day.

Liverpool’s miss to sign him would also alert other teams to try to take advantage of the situation, but there is still a very good chance he could end up at Anfield.

Carvalho is likely to pick four or five clubs in the summer when his contract expires due to the performances he made with Fulham.

If he doesn’t choose to come to Liverpool, he’s not a Liverpool player. If he wants to come, that’s pretty cool.
