Leicester honor Gary Lineker’s “life ban” request after punching a Forrest fan | football | sports

Leicester have confirmed they will slap the fan who threw punches at Nottingham Forest players as they celebrated a goal in their 4-1 FA Cup fourth round victory, with a life ban. The current pageant holders endured a day to be forgotten and off as their fans grabbed the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Before the match, footage emerged online of a small minority of Leicester fans throwing chairs at the windows of a Nottingham pub.

The situation did not improve much on the field as Forrest led 3-0 in the first half after three goals in nine minutes.

The embarrassment proved too much for an angry fan, who evaded the referees before dramatically attacking the jungle players with a series of punches.

He quickly wrestled and pulled off the field before being caught.

The Football Association has now confirmed that it is investigating the incident.

Leicester fan Gary Lineker made it clear he wanted the club to attack the individual hard, which he described as embarrassing.

He said on Twitter: “Anyone who ran onto the pitch and punched @NFFC players should be banned for life by LCFC. Embarrassment and disgrace.”

A Leicester statement read: “The club is appalled by such behaviour, and extends its apologies to Nottingham Forest and its players, whose safety has been put at risk.

“We applaud the swift action taken by the City Ground hosts in arresting the individual concerned, who will be subject to a life ban from all Leicester City matches at home and abroad.

“We will provide all support to the relevant authorities in taking further appropriate measures,” he added.

Watford’s loaned Philip Zinkernagel put the hosts ahead when he diverted the ball from his knee after Keenan Davis headed into the goal.

Man of the Match, Brennan Johnson, who underwent multiple bids in January from Brentford, scored his second goal when he knocked out goalkeeper Danny Ward.

It was 3-0 moments later when Joe Worrall came in from a corner kick before Kelechi Iheanacho pulled his side into the match in impressive fashion.

Spurs’ Jed Spence goal ended the match when he finished with confidence in the second half to knock the hosts out of the competition.

Forrest will now face Huddersfield in the fifth round, while Leicester are left to lick their wounds as their disappointing season continues.
