Scotland wind warning issued as 90mph ‘danger to life’ gusts forecasted this week

Scotland is under a wind weather warning from the Met Office due to very strong winds to come on February 16 and 17.

Beginning 6pm Wednesday and ending 6pm Thursday, the yellow warning covers high-speed winds that will affect most of the country.

Powerful gusts up to 60 to 70mph are predicted inland, whilst gusts could reach extreme speeds of 80 to 90mph on Scotland’s hills and exposed coasts.

There is a chance of “injuries and danger to life” from flying debris, the Met Office warning.

There is “still uncertainty” about exactly when and where the strongest winds will blow, but the forecaster has already issued a weather warning days in advance.

Very strong winds are predicted to develop across the western Scotland and northern Northern Ireland on Wednesday.

Then overnight Wednesday, the strong gusts will sweep eastward across most of Scotland and northern England on Thursday.

“A very unsettled week to come with a powerful jet stream fueling rapidly deepening areas of low pressure,” the Met Office tweeted.

“This will bring #strong winds and #gales across parts of the country this week.”
