A television tower in Kyiv was hit soon after the Russian defense ministry said it would launch missile strikes on the Ukrainian capital to destroy buildings and other infrastructure that it claimed were responsible for cyberattacks against Russia.
The ministry said the “high-precision” strikes would target facilities of the Ukrainian state security service, as well as what it described as a center of “psychological and information operations”. It did not provide addresses or any other details.
Witnesses reported two or three explosions near the TV tower, situated in a built-up area of the capital, and video footage emerged of large clouds of smoke at the scene. Ukrainian officials said that the strike killed five people and injured another five. Some state broadcasting was affected but
