Emergency services were called to a fire on an industrial site which “gutted” a local business.

Firefighters were called out to the incident, on the A608 Station Road in Langley Mill, at 4.35am on Friday, March 11.

Our reporter at the scene has said the business where the fire started was Hippie’s Autos – but no one was inside the building.

An unnamed staff member said he was told on the phone that the fire has gutted the place, Derbyshire Live reports.

Inside the building was a van which was also destroyed by fire.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We’ve had a private garage fire, single unit, which caught fire in the early hours of the morning. Accidental ignition.

“We had five pumps here at the height of it but we’ve now scaled it down to one. We don’t think we’ll be here very long. No one was in there and there were simply no injuries. It was a building on fire, we’re dampening down now.”

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said earlier this morning that four fire engines were at the scene. Crews from the Heanor, Ilkeston, Ripley and Eastwood fire stations.

Traffic monitoring service Inrix has said Station Road has reopened in both directions, in its latest update a few minutes ago.

“A608 Station Road in both directions, earlier building fire from Eastwood Roundabout to Derby Road Junction,” Inrix reopened at just after 7.40am.
