Good afternoon. Britain will deploy its Sky Saber missile system in Poland, Ben Wallace said during a visit to Warsaw.

The move is part of Nato efforts to beef up the security of its eastern flank in view of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Elsewhere, a so-called “deepfake” video of the Ukrainian president telling his people to lay down their weapons has emerged online. In the footage, a digitally manipulated image of Mr Zelensky said his army has “failed”, and that Ukrainians should surrender.

1. UK to deploy Sky Saber missile system to Poland

The UK will send an additional 100 troops and deploy the Army’s Sky Saber air-defence missile system to Poland, Ben Wallace, the defense minister, confirmed during a visit to Warsaw on Thursday.

Delivered to the British Army last year, Sky Saber is an advanced surface-to-air missile system that can destroy fighter jets and multiple incoming missiles. Its developers claim it can hit an object the size of a tennis ball traveling faster than the speed of sound.

Speaking after a meeting with Mariusz Blaszczak, his Polish counterpart, Mr Wallace said it was vital “to guarantee the security of Polish air space from any further aggression by Russia.”
