Half-time ratings

Jordan Pickford – 6

A surprise inclusion after Frank Lampard said he’d miss this game through illness, he did well to punch away a wickedly inswinging corner kick from Michael Olise but could do nothing about Marc Olise’s header from the same player’s delivery moments later.

Ben Godfrey – 4

Operating on the right of a central defensive trio, he was tasked with trying to keep Wilfried Zaha quiet but the Palace dangerman left him in his wake for the second goal.

Michael Keane – 4

Dominant in the air and strong in the tackle but like Godfrey, where was he when Guehi put the hosts ahead? Everton’s defenders must take collect responsibility for the Palace captain being left so open to score

Mason Holgate – 4

Moved over to the left of the back three here, he looked solid enough in possession but had his hands full keeping tabs on Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Seamus Coleman – 6

Deployed as a more attack-minded wing-back, the Everton captain carried on where he’d left off against Newcastle United, marauding forward with purpose but the bright start soon faded.

Andre Gomes – 6

Had many Palace fans incandescent when he caught Conor Gallagher on the head with a stray boot but there was no malice in the challenge and he generally kept his shape.

Abdoulaye Doucoure – 6

Found himself hemmed in just in front of Everton’s defence and there was little scope for the box-to-box play he can produce when given the chance.

Jonjoe Kenny – 5

Instantly restored after his suspension, the home-grown hero has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of Frank Lampard’s appointment but while he was game as always, he remains a square peg in a round hole when operating at left wing-back.

Andros Townsend – 7

His return to former club Crystal Palace cruelly ended prematurely as he was hurt after being caught by Tyrick Mitchell following an encouragement opening.

Anthony Gordon – 6

Typical hard-working display but not a lot coming off for him so far.

Richarlison – 5

A lively start from the Brazilian and he’s getting on the end of things but too often he’s offside or his shooting is wayward.

Demarai Gray (on for Townsend 17) – 5

Needs to get back to his form from earlier in the season quickly.
