Five bridges on three Los Angeles County freeways have received safety upgrades to make them better equipped to withstand earthquakes.

Caltrans announced the completion of seismic retrofitting and concrete reinforcement on bridges on three local interstates:

210 Freeway: Zachary Padilla Avenue and Vernon Avenue overcrossings405 Freeway: Getty Center Drive undercrossing605 Freeway: Lower Azusa Road and Arrow Highway overcrossings

The $11 million project began last February and was funded through the state’s Road Repair Accountability Act, or SB1.” “Preserving the structural integrity of bridges is one of the primary goals of SB1 funding,” Caltrans District 7 Director Tony Tavares said in a media release . “This project… ensures the safety of local commuters and supports the efficient and timely movement of goods.”
