Moderate magnitude 4.2 quake hits 38 km northwest of Tocopilla, Chile around noon

Just 9 minutes ago, a 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Tocopilla, Antofagasta, Chile. The tremor was recorded around noon on Sunday, April 17th, 2022, at 1:15 pm local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 33 km below the surface.The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.1.Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak include Tocopilla ( pop. 24,500) located 38 km from the epicenter.
