Metro Manila (April 21, CNN Philippines) — A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck Manay, Davao Oriental early Thursday, state seismologists reported, noting aftershocks were expected.
In an earthquake bulletin, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology or Phivolcs said the tremor struck 78 kilometers southeast of Manay at 5:57 am
It had a depth of 21 kilometers and was tectonic in origin, indicating it was caused by a movement in the Earth’s crust.
No damage was expected.
Intensity 4, or “moderately strong” intensity, was recorded in Manay while Intensity 2, or a tremor “slightly felt”, was recorded in General Santos City and Tampakan, South Cotabato.
Intensity 2 was also recorded in Davao City, Bislig City, Kidapawan City and General Santos City.
