Met Gala 2022 live: Blake Lively, Ashton Sanders and more hit the red carpet for ‘gilded glamor’ theme

Guests are beginning to arrive at the 2022 Met Gala.

The 2022 Met Gala will be the first time fashion’s most-anticipated event will take place on the first Monday in May in two years.

Last year, the Met Gala took place on 13 September and the year before, it was canceled due to the pandemic. Usually, around 600 celebrities are invited to mark the glitzy event in their social calendars, but this year and last, the numbers are closer to 400.

The 2022 Met Gala’s theme is In America: An Anthology of Fashion, or “Gilded Glamor”, and is the second part of the Costume Institute’s exhibition, which opened on 18 September.

The first part of the exhibition was reflected in last year’s Met Gala theme, In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, which was in celebration of all things American Fashion.

As per tradition, the guest list for this year’s event has been presided over carefully by Vogue’s Anna Wintour, who has run the gala since 1995. It was announced earlier this year that the 2022 hosts would include Regina King, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds and Lin-Manuel Miranda, who will served as the night’s official co-chairs.

The Game of Thrones actress, 26, is currently expecting her second child with musician Joe Jonas, 32.

The Met Gala 2022 co-chairs Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have arrived.

Blake Lively looked regal in Versace as she performed the first red carpet outfit change of the night, while Ryan Reynolds stayed on theme with the evening’s white-tie dress code. The actress, 34, was dressed in a shimmery floor-length rose gold gown before she unveiled its layered turquoise skirt. The Versace dress is inspired by famous New York City landmarks, including Grand Central Station, the Statue of Liberty, and the Empire State Building.

The dress code for this year’s Met Gala is gilded glamor, white-tie. Guests are asked to look to the Gilded Age of New York for inspiration, a time period that spanned from 1870 to 1890 and saw a boom in industrialisation, and, as a result, prosperity.
