Manchester United vs Arsenal LIVE: Premier League latest and goal updates as Antony scores on debut

“Ten Hag brings out the best in me” – new Man Utd winger Antony

Follow live updates as Manchester United host Arsenal in the biggest fixture of the Premier League weekend. The Gunners head to Old Trafford at the top of the table and with five wins from their opening five games under Mikel Arteta. They will face their biggest test of the season so far, however, as they take on Erik ten Hag’s United – who appeared to have turned a corner with three consecutive wins.

Thursday’s win over Leicester came as United confirmed the €100m signing of Brazil forward Antony, who will make his full debut at Old Trafford today. Arsenal, meanwhile, were frustrated in their pursuit of Douglas Luiz and suddenly look a little light in midfield – but Arteta has been boosted by both Oleksandr Zinchenko and Martin Odegaard’s availability. If Arsenal were to win it would be only their second at Old Trafford since 2006 and would increase the excitement around the Emirates of a potential title challenge. Half-time: Manchester United lead thanks to a debut goal from Antony. The Brazilian swept home to finish off a lovely team move.

Arsenal have largely dominated this opening 45 minutes but have nothing to show for it. Gabriel Martinelli had the ball in the net but it was back disallowed by VAR for a foul on Christian Eriksen.

Captivating and thrilling. United edging it at the break.

45+3 mins: Wow! Talk about confidence!

Antony picks the ball up 40 yards out and tries to lob Ramsdale who is a few yards off his line. The Arsenal keeper plucks it out of the air, but United fans won’t mind that when they’re already winning.

45+2 mins: Three minutes of added time at the end of this first half. You can put that largely down to the time VAR took to disallow Arsenal’s goal.

Arsenal win a free-kick midway inside the Manchester United half. Odegaard lifts it down the touchline for Saka but it drifts aimlessly out of play.

45 mins: Arsenal get play back underway as they build up slowly from the back, looking for a way through this solid United defensive structure (didn’t think I’d be saying that after the Brentford thumping).

Saka eventually gets a bit frustrated and tries his luck from a distance… way over the crossbar.

For the most part, Arsenal have been scintillating so far today. But they have nothing to show for their lovely football.

43 mins: White crosses and finds Martinelli at the back post. He heads down for Odegaard but it’s a couple of yards in front of the Arsenal captain and United hook it away.

This relentless intensity pauses for a moment as Rashford receives treatment for a coming together with Gabriel.

A moment for Ten Hag and Arteta to ponder this first half. It’s been enthralling.

41 mins: Rashford drives at the Arsenal back line but gets his feet in a muddle at the crucial time and White is able to nick it away from him.

Martinelli is then found at the other end and suffers a similar mix up to Rashford as United clear.

End to end stuff. Superb intensity.

39 mins: It was a really good advantage played by Paul Tierney in the build-up to that goal. Fernandes was taken out by Gabriel but the referee let the move carry on as the ball found Sancho. And the rest is history.

Meanwhile, Arsenal regain the ball after going behind and Saka shoots from the edge of the box. It takes two deflections but ends up in the arms of De Gea.

36 mins: DEBUT GOAL FOR ANTONY!

It’s a brilliant goal from Manchester United who have been under the cosh for the best part of 20 minutes.

Eriksen slides a wonderful pass into Fernandes who nicks it beyond Gabriel and finds Sancho. He feeds it onto Antony who is in acres of space on the right side of the penalty area and the former Ajax man sweeps it into the corner.

Lovely goal. Totally against the run of play.

33 mins: SENSATIONAL SAVE! Arsenal probe the United penalty area for a while before Odegaard clips a delicious cross to the back post for Martinelli. The Brazilian heads back across De Gea but the Spaniard is equal to it and parries away acrobatically to deny Arsenal the opening goal.

Arsenal toying with United at the moment. Some superb football being played by the visitors. They just need the goal as a reward for their efforts.
