Latest updates from the ‘Far Out’ Apple event

Apple has revealed its new Apple Watch Series 8, which will come with all the features users have come to expect such as heart rate tracking, calls, and ECG scans.

However, there is something new. Temperature tracking, which Apple claims will be able to track when women are ovulating.

Diedre Caldbeck, of Apple, says:

It’s swim proof, crack proof and it takes our commitment to women’s health even further.

Menstrual cycles are key to women’s health… we added cycle tracking three years ago and it helped tens of millions gain insights into their cycles and overall health.

We build our health features with two fundamentals. First they are developed with scientifically validated insights. Second, privacy is at the core to keep your data private.

In the health app you’ll be able to see nightly shifts from your baseline temperature which can be caused by things like alcohol, jet lag or illness. But temperature tracking is useful for those tracking their cycles.

The biphasic shift is a bodily response to changing hormones, and it can indicate ovulation.
