James had become an important part of Tuchel’s side after scoring six goals and scoring 10 assists in 31 appearances last season from right wing-back. The England international is now regarded as one of the Blues’ key players having stepped up a level under the German’s tutelage.

He put pen to paper on a new long-term contract with the club that will keep him to at least 2027 at Stamford Bridge, making him one of the club’s highest-earners on a reported £250,000-a-week.

When asked about Tuchel’s high praise of his performances last season, the right-back was said he was flattered by his praise and was keen to point out the German’s part in helping him contribute to more goals.

“I think it is down to him [Tuchel]. He wants our wing-backs to be very aggressive and attack whenever we get the chance,” he said back in November 2021.

“Obviously scoring helps with anyone’s confidence but I believe in my own ability and so when I get a chance, I back myself. It’s always nice when people think highly of you, but I’m still young and I’ve got a long way to go.”
