One volcanic earthquake was recorded in Mayon Volcano in Albay over the past 24 hours as it remained under Alert Level 2, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said Sunday.
In its 8 am bulletin, PHIVOLCS said that Mayon Volcano continued to have “increased unrest” since its alert level status was raised from 1 to 2 on Friday.
As of October 9, Mayon Volcano’s crater glow was also “obscured” and its edifice “has slightly inflated.”
It also emitted moderate amounts of plumes, drifting west-southwest and southwest.
Meanwhile, the last time it generated 391 tonnes of sulfur dioxide was on October 1.
PHIVOLCS reminded the public that entry into the six-kilometer radius of Mayon Volcano’s Permanent Danger Zone is not allowed.
Flying any aircraft close to the volcano is likewise prohibited.
PHIVOLCS further warning that hazards such as sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions, rockfalls, landslides, or avalanches and lahars during heavy and prolonged rainfall may occur at Mayon Volcano. —Giselle Ombay/KG, GMA News
