The first look at Joaquin Phoenix for Joker: Folie à Deux has been released as filming for the sequel begins.

In an Instagram post, director Todd Phillips shared a photo of the main star receiving a haircut, with the caption, “Day 1. Our boy. #clown.”

The follow-up to the 2019 film, set for a 2024 release, added Lady Gaga, Harry Lottie, Jacob Lofland, and Brendan Gleeson to its list; Zazie Beetz is set to return with Phoenix from the first movie.

Gaga, who won acclaim for her acting work in A Star Is Born and American Horror Story: Hotel, will play the love interest and fellow criminal, Harley Quinn.

Margot Robbie, who plays Quinn in the different universes of the DC universe, was excited by Gaga’s casting, saying, “It’s such an honor to have built a strong enough foundation that Harley can now be one of those characters other actors get to go.” to play, and I think she’d do something incredible with it.”

Although specific plot details are thin on the ground, we do know the film will include musical numbers, a genre shift that would make good use of Gaga’s other talents.

Betz, who played Arthur’s neighbor Sophie in the first film, was excited about the development, saying, “I wasn’t really surprised by this. Todd has always had a creative approach to the character.

“I love musicals, and I think of them because the characters feel and experience so much that they can’t help but sing and dance around, whether in sadness or in joy. I can actually see that in me too, because singing and dancing are such a cathartic experience for me.”

Joker: Folie à Deux is set for release October 4, 2024. Joker is available to buy on Blu-ray or streaming now.
