Lampard’s favorite Ten Hag is safer than Klopp

Frank Lampard is on the ice at Everton as the favorite to leave as manager in the Premier League.

1) Frank Lampard: If Everton fans weren’t strangely fond of him, Lampard might already be out of a job. Whether because of the kind of haze left behind by a battle to avoid relegation or because they have more respect for the Chelsea legends than Chelsea do, the Toffees loyalists have, for the most part, remained firmly behind Lampard. But he still couldn’t find a balance between defense and offense.

2) David Moyes: A team that finished sixth and then seventh in the Premier League in the previous two seasons, spent £150m in the summer on players like Lucas Paqueta and Gianluca Schamacca, and haven’t lost a player of great importance, shouldn’t be in a relegation battle . . Will Moise Rice’s big name replacement persuade Declan to stay? Mostly not.

3) Graham Potter The assurances of Todd Bohle and his followers that Graham Potter is the one and always will be at Stamford Bridge mean squat, reckless, quite frankly. Thomas Tuchel is still well-liked by Chelsea’s fan base, almost all of whom need convincing that Potter isn’t as out of his depth as he has appeared since taking over.

4) Jesse March is not Marcelo Bielsa. He might have known it before he got to Leeds, but if he wasn’t so sure, he knows it now. Marsh has no hope of usurping the man with the 50-foot-high murals in a city that will never accept that he is not theirs.

5) Steve Cooper: He signed a new contract at Nottingham Forest in October when the team was really bad and there has been a slow but steady rise in performances and results since then.

6) Antonio Conte: It still looks as if Conte is more likely to leave than to be sacked. The Italian is powerhouse at Tottenham, who will need to keep their coffers loaded if they are to persuade him to stay.

7) Julen Lopetegui If the new manager doesn’t buy a striker or two in January, Wolverhampton will drop. Preferably one to create chances and one to score goals, because they don’t do that either.

8) Marco Silva: Silva appears to be very high on this list given that he doesn’t really feel Fulham are in danger of relegation. Could this be a case of wanting too much too soon?

9) Nathan Jones: It was a big, big call from Southampton to sign Jones, who had success at Luton in two spells but had a stinking record in his short spell with Stoke. He’s a talented young coach with a group of talented young players, but the lack of experience among the playing and coaching staff could be an issue.

10) Brendan Rodgers: Leicester and Rodgers must be really bad for the board to sack him because they can’t pay his £10m compensation. A mid-table finish would be nice and very achievable with the squad at his disposal.

11) Thomas Frank: There is probably more danger of Frank being poached than being fired. He has created a proper Premier League team that plays entertaining football on a budget.

12) Patrick Vieira: Fans and players love him and rightfully so. After flirting with relegation in the Premier League seemingly forever, it doesn’t seem likely that Palace will lead again – or at least look good while flirting.

13) Jurgen Klopp People briefly thought Jurgen Klopp could be a problem at Liverpool before rediscovering their intelligence. He’s still somewhat at the top of this list, in good news for all but Liverpool fans.

14) Roberto De Zerbi, can Brighton do wrong? They sold their best players from last season and got better, then they lost one of their best young coaches, and once again, it looks like they’ve improved.

15) Unai Emery: It would be very difficult to do less than Steven Gerrard with a well-equipped squad.

16) Erik ten Hag has done too well to be this safe after the start of the season and with Cristiano Ronaldo out of the picture, the spirit that Ten Hag started at Manchester United could not get stronger and more entrenched.

17) Mikel Arteta – He’s stuck to his fingertips on more than one occasion in Arsenal’s stint, but his confidence in the process has paid off. Arteta and transfer chief Edu proved to be quite the pair, putting together a team to challenge giants Manchester City.

18) Eddie Howe: He took Newcastle from 19th to 9th in the pecking order comfortably last season and is now on the Champions League qualification hooray, spending smart money on players who have instantly improved their first line-up.

19) Pep Guardiola: Now synonymous with Manchester City, the next manager will have a stellar and impossible job. Guardiola would be at the Etihad for three times as long as he was at his previous jobs if he saw his contract and it now feels like he’s as obsessed with winning the Champions League as the owners are. Fans of rival clubs may hope the gong comes sooner rather than later because they may not leave without it.
