At one point during the dance, which lasted two minutes, he made sure that one of the old women wouldn’t trip over some wire on the floor by kicking it with her foot.

Holocaust survivor Helen Aronson, 95, said: “Today I had two kisses on both cheeks! I told him I wasn’t washing my face.

“It is very special for the King to take some time and come to the Jewish community and talk to everyone and shake hands with everyone, it is really amazing. I will not forget this till the day I die, an experience like that, for the King to accept it.”

It was nice

Anne Frank’s sister, Eva Schloss, a 93-year-old survivor of Nazi concentration camps, spent decades promoting peace among humans, and now dances with the King.

She said: “He was nice, he was really involved, and he seemed to be enjoying it – but it’s very unusual for him not to make a speech. But he was very relaxed and he enjoyed it. I’d try to dance with him.”

“They are very easy to talk to, they don’t stand on a higher level where you have to make an appointment, they are human beings and they want to be part of society, part of the British people and help everyone.”

Schloss added: “Unfortunately there is still anti-Semitism, and people say Jews should go to Israel, this is England, but I hope we can overcome these prejudices.

“England is one of the richest countries in the world and we have to fight against poverty and I hope King Charles can manage this situation a bit. I hope he helps make things easier for everyone and fight racism. I think he is a very good king.”

King ‘appeared with shoes full of donations’

JW3 was founded by Dame Vivien Duffield in October 2013 as a joint hub for arts, culture, social work and learning. It is open to all faiths and is in particular a meeting point for the British Jewish community.

Addressing a reception before Hanukkah, Dame Vivian said: “Today, exactly 20 years after my first inspiration, I am proud to stand here and welcome Your Majesty to a vibrant, exciting and hopefully… promoting Jewish life in London.”

The King then unveiled a small plaque commemorating his visit to JW3, and made a gift of the Chanukah Menorah to artist Michael Aram.
