Avatar: The Way of Water has finally hit cinemas after a 13-year wait for Avatar fans, and this is only the beginning of our return to Pandora.
James Cameron has planned four sequels to his 2009 blockbuster hit, which remains the biggest blockbuster of all time. It remains to be seen if they all happen, but Avatar 3 is definitely coming our way, hopefully in December 2024.
So with that in mind, you’d be forgiven for thinking he might have taken a leaf from the MCU playbook and planted a tease for the third movie in the form of a credits scene or two in the sequel.
However, we’re here to tell you that Avatar: The Way of Water doesn’t contain any credit cutscenes, though you’ll obviously have to stick to the credits to see the massive amount of work that went into making the sequel.
It’s probably not a huge surprise since the first movie didn’t have any credits scenes either. However, at the time of its release, only Cameron knew there was a big future planned.
Speaking to Digital Spy prior to the sequel’s release, Cameron revealed that the credits scene was never a consideration. Instead, the movie doesn’t answer every question that will keep fans on their toes until the third movie.
He elaborated, “There are questions that aren’t answered by design. And there are a lot of questions that are answered. And the defining near threat of this story gets resolved, right?”
So it’s more like episodic television in the sense that the characters are the characters. The characters have their problems, and those problems will continue, and they’ll be resolved across multiple movies.
“But the specific threat at the exact moment will always be resolved. And that’s our motivation that we’ve applied to these films.”

As for what those mysteries are, you’ll just have to go and watch Avatar: The Way of Water to see for yourself.
