ET 30 min +3: Huge chances to win it either end! Kolo Mwani is the one with Martinez, who spreads out and saves his life! Then Messi skates to the right and stands next to Lautaro Martinez in the middle. Heading straight from ten yards!
ET 30 min +2: Messi and Lautaro Martinez almost repeat Maradona-Burachaga’s 1986 winning combination…but as Martinez chases down the middle and prepares to shoot, Konat steps forward and shows the offside flag. Loris kicks away anyway.
ET 30 mins +1: Both teams make a change with penalties in mind. France replaces Disasi with Conde, while Argentina sends Dybala for Tagliafico.
30 minutes ET: No. France handles the corner easily enough…and then climbs to the other end and almost snatches it to the death! Mbappe cross from the left. Kolo Muani rises and heads towards the top right. Martinez is scrambling, and it’s unlikely he’ll get there if he’s shooting on goal. But it bounces inches wide off the top corner!
ET 29 min: … So Mbappe becomes only the second player in history to score a hat-trick in a final, after Geoff Hurst in 1966. But there’s no time to think about that, because Acuna wins a corner on the left for Argentina. They couldn’t, right?
Goal! Argentina 3-3 France (Mbappe Penalty 118)
There was some confusion as to when this penalty was given. Was it a free kick? no! penalty. No confusion about the kick itself, though. Mbappe sends Martinez the wrong way and hits the left side of the net!

Punishment for France!
26 min: Half of the corner cleaned up. Mbappé, left of D, wraps up to right. Montiel jumps up and jumps with his forearm. Referee points to the spot!
25 min: Konate, of all people, wins with a corner down the right wing. Before it can be eaten, Pezzella comes for Mac Allister.
ET 24 min: Camavinga drives down the inside left channel at Paredes, who, perhaps picturing the Dutch dugout in front of him, plows straight through his leg at full speed. Sarcastic as you like it, and it’s almost getting started. just yellow.
ET 23 min: Argentina lose some time near the corner flag.
ET 22 min: Martinez, who has been phenomenal since coming on, tries to round Varane on the left wing. He doesn’t quite get past his man, but he does just enough to force a throw near the corner flag. Varan collapses. spend. Can’t go on. Konate takes his place.
ET 20 min.: Martinez was just out. Messi just bundled up above the line. VAR checks. But all is well! Argentina regains the lead, and the stadium shoots into space. What a noise! Messi leads the crowd as he celebrates. They don’t need any encouragement!
Goal! Argentina 3-2 France (Messi 109)
Triangulation of Argentina below right inner channel. Messi slides Martinez into the box down the right inside channel. Martinez hits a pearl in the net from a narrow angle. Lloris Barez, but the rebound falls to Messi, who packs over the goal line!

ET 17 min: Long pass down the right of Argentina. Lloris, under pressure from the slacker Martínez, comes out of the penalty area to allow a throw-in. Messi then shot from range, towards the bottom right, only for Lloris to head wide off the corner.

Argentina gets the second half of extra time in progress. They were the better team going into extra time in the quarter-final against the Netherlands, having taken a two-goal lead late in that game as well. They didn’t repeat the trick this time…but Lautaro Martinez’s introduction gave them a boost at the right time. Viola shadows in the 1994 final?
Extra time, half time: Argentina 2-2 France
Lautaro Martinez wants the corner Argentina deserves, but there is little time to take the goal kick which France did not.

ET 15 mins +1: Upamecano denies Martinez again! Martinez races in after a long pass down the left inside channel. it’s clear! But as he shot, Upamecano pins the ball deflected wide of the goal.
15 minutes: Argentina comes alive! Messi duet with Lautaro Martinez on the edge of the penalty area. Martinez fires, only for Upamecano to slip out of nowhere into the block. The rebound falls to Montell, who sends a soaring whoop toward the upper left. Varane brows bravely at the angle from which nothing is coming.
ET 14 min: Acuna sprints down the left and reaches the edge of the France square, only to cross hysterically at the defender behind the goal.
ET 13 min: Double change for Argentina. De Paul and Alvarez gave way to Paredes and Lautaro Martinez. What a story it would be if Lautaro Martinez, after all his struggles in this tournament, had pulled out the winner in the final.
ET 11 min: France pins Argentina on the back. Free kick, then a corner from the left. Ultimately, the offside flag takes the pressure off Argentina.

ET 9 min: Mbappe launches in a dribble down the left wing. At one point he had four men around him, yet he still persisted. Numbers will inevitably prevail, but this is a resolute rally, and France is looking more positive at the moment. The way the game went, it’s no wonder.
ET 7 min: Romero stands at Mbappe’s feet. This isn’t much of a challenge but the referee is lenient, perhaps because the flag was already flown for offside.
ET 6 min: Fofana replaces Rabiot. Meanwhile, here’s Simon McMahon with a ‘tournament highlight’ on ITV as Ally McCoist asks, with a straight face: ‘Did anyone score a hat-trick in a World Cup final?’ “

ET 5, min.: Acuna leads with an elbow into an aerial challenge. Just a varied free kick in the park, but Acuna, who’s already booked, wants to mark himself here.
ET 3 min: Messi, 35, runs hard at Camavinga but can’t get past the 20-year-old. Rugby then tried to tackle the French midfielder, to stop a counter-attack, but not be booked. “I bet Ronaldo has brought the game back,” Victoria Pearson jokes.

ET 2 min: Argentina start the first period of overtime on the front foot. Acuna turns inward from the left. Varane is removed under pressure from McAllister. “Scaloni outplayed Deschamps with the original line-up, but Deschamps’ rearrangement of the French team outweighed the Argentinian,” Kari Tolinius wrote. “Whatever happens now, Didier has secured his place in World Cup folklore.”
France gets the first half of extra time in progress. Argentina made a change, replacing their right-back Molina with Montel.
Lionel Scaloni gathers his shocked troops and supposedly gives them a game of a thousand tokens you win once. Messi is his usual fuzzy self. Meanwhile, Mbappe is getting a massage. He deserved it. Only one team has come back from two goals down in a World Cup final: West Germany against the Miracle Bern in 1954.
End of the match: Argentina 2-2 France
Messi drops deep and fires a long pass down the left wing. The Maradona-to-Burruchaga dynamic just doesn’t quite come off, we’ll just take extra time!

90 min +8: France clears the resulting corner easily enough, then Acuna is booked for taunting Koeman as he plans to fire the counter.
90 min +7: … Having said that, they launched what is now a rare attack. Messi storms in from the right and his eyes light up. Places the laces through a dedicated lifter in the upper left. It’s on target. Loris gets a strong hand for the coup. What a story that could have been!
90 minutes +5: The tension is palpable. Jirou, on the bench, is booked for the referee shift. Then Kolo Maeini leads the Argentine defence. Argentina rally it and managed to scramble clearly. This is brutal! Argentina completely fell to bits.
90 min +4: Half of the corner cleaned. Koeman fouled near the left corner flag. Judgment waves play on. Camavinga lifts Rabiot, who slams towards the bottom left. Amy Martinez fumbles, but collects the loose ball under pressure from the late Kolo Mwani.
90 min +3: France free kick on the left. Argentina looks tense. They are lucky because Mbappe’s handover is not good. They are clear. But France is right back at them, with Mbappe looking to become only the second top scorer in a World Cup Final hat-trick. He cries towards the France region and sends a finger upward towards the goal. I veered over the bar.
90 min +2: Acuna tries to launch Tagliafico into France’s box down the left. A lot in the pass. Goal kick. On the bench, Di Maria stares at a spot about 1,000 yards away. Could it be that Scaloni’s decision to sack Di Maria was like Ramsey’s decision to take him on Bobby Charlton in the 1970 quarter-final? David Wall asks.
90 min +1: France certainly look like the most likely to find an extra-time winner. But there is no point in trying to guess this match.
90 minutes: There will be eight minutes added.
89 min: Two players fall, requiring treatment. So they replay the tie for Mbappe. Mbappe really hit the ball – it was a great shot – but Aimee Martinez got a good hand. It’s not a mistake, but how close did he come to stopping Mbappe’s goals? The fine line between success and failure is at the pinnacle of sports.

87 min: The Argentine’s hearts are in mouths as Thuram runs over Fernandez’s leg in the box. Shouting for a penalty, but it’s really a yellow card for Thuram, who pitted contact by hanging his leg and went down.
86 min: Mbappe will get all the headlines, but first-half French duo Kolo Mwani and Thuram make a big impression in this match. What a call from Deschamps, but that’s it.
