In his first film since his last appearance as James Bond, Daniel Craig returns as the dapper detective Benoit Blanc in the murder mystery Glass Onion – the sequel to 2019’s Knives Out.

This time around, celebrities and influencers are under suspicion as the film takes a satirical look at the decadence of the ultra-modern rich and famous.

But while the movie jokes about tropes and internet memes, its star says the virtual world isn’t a place where he ever plans to have a profile. “The wild horses couldn’t drag me into a social media account,” Craig told Sky News.

One of the film’s messages is to think before we speak — which the actor says is a lesson for all of us, whether we’re online or not.

“I can learn it,” he said, “and we can all learn it; I mean, I’m not above any of it.” “Maybe one of the reasons I’ve been away from social media is because I’m going to say things that I’m going to regret and I don’t want to do that.

“I kind of want to try and think before I speak—you’ll see in this interview that I don’t think!”

Such was the success of 2019’s Knives Out that the franchise was acquired by Netflix, who reportedly paid £375m for that film and another sequel.

The streaming platform has also broken form to show Glass Onion at all three major US cinema chains – something both Craig and writer-director Rian Johnson have called for.

“I say the obvious and we keep saying the obvious, but the movies are a great group experience,” said Craig.

Johnson added, “It was a big thing for us from the beginning and with the first film, just to see audiences experience it together and experience it together at home as well – so there’s no wrong way to do it.”

While Craig was back, the rest of the stellar cast was fresh, and with filming happening in a bubble during the pandemic, the cast found themselves spending a lot of time together.

But despite the participation of several listeners, there didn’t seem to be any diva-like behavior on — or off — on.

Kate Hudson, who plays Birdie Guy, a former model turned fashion designer, believes the casting was key.

“You want to bring that energy and that kind of sparkle with the characters and how we interact with each other to life,” she said.

“And that’s how you do it, you do it by bonding and creating environments that keep us close, which they’ve done. And also choosing people who are going to really like each other — it’s not going to be annoying.”

Janelle Mooney, who plays tech entrepreneur Andy Brand, credits Johnson with creating the right atmosphere.

“I was so shocked at how calm he was on set,” she said. “This is a big cast, a lot of characters, things happen in production, technical difficulties, some things might not go as planned, and I never saw him lose his cool — and that helped us as actors.

“And also, he was planning these murder mystery parties for the weekend, so we’d shoot a murder mystery, and then we’d play like a mafia, murder mystery game just for fun, but all those things we did outside of filming helped us trust each other even more. screen – and we really like each other.
