More than 70 sailors have been rescued and 31 are missing after a Thai navy warship capsized and sank in high winds.
The warship HTMS Sukhothai was on patrol in the Gulf of Thailand, 20 miles from dock in the Bangsavan district of Prachuap Khiri Khan province, when bad weather struck it.
The wind blew seawater into the warship and destroyed its electrical system.
The Royal Thai Navy sent three frigates – HTMS Ang Thong HTMS Bhumibol HTMS Kraburi – and two helicopters with mobile pumping machines in an effort to clear the water.
But strong winds made the task impossible. As more sea water poured into the ship, it began to sink.
In the early hours of Monday morning (UK time), the navy said 75 sailors had been rescued, while ships and helicopters were searching for another 31 people still in the water.
Eleven people are currently being treated in hospital.

The Navy posted photos of a group of people in orange jumpsuits sitting in a black inflatable raft, with waves billowing around it in the dark.
Sukhothai was built in the United States and has been in use since 1987.
Thailand has been experiencing some extreme weather lately – the northern and central parts of the country experience the coldest temperatures of the year.
Farther south, there were storms and floods, which led to warnings to ships to stay ashore.
