Rehan Ahmed became the youngest men’s bowler to take five overs on Test debut as England closed in a series of whitewashes over Pakistan on the third day of the final Test.
After Jack Leach took three wickets in the first session, Ahmed turned the game on its head and finished with figures of 5-48 as he shredded Pakistan’s middle and lower order.
His spell meant England needed 167 to win and for a short while the tourists looked set to complete victory within three days as Zak Crawley (41) and Ben Duckett raced towards the target.
But poor lighting intervened, and England – 112-2 at close – will have to bounce back on Tuesday, needing just 55 runs to win with Duquette (50) and Ben Stokes (10) both back at the crease.
Earlier in the day, Babbar Azam (54) and Saud Shakeel (53) forced England to toil on the field after lunch, with a 110-run partnership taking them to 164-3.

But the 18-year-old Ahmed was brought into the attack late during the second session and took three quick wickets to reduce the hosts to 177-6 at tea – a 128-run lead.
He broke Pakistan’s fourth wicket stand when he dismissed Babar, who had just brought up his half-century.
The Pakistani captain was trying to punish a loose short delivery but ended up smashing the ball straight into Ooly Bob at Midwicket.
Muhammad Radwan (7 years old), who had just survived a fall at the hands of Zack Crowley for seven, was caught giving Ahmed his second scalp.
Shaquille then left for 53, sweeping Jack Leach in the first leg to give Ahmed his fifth wicket of the match, leaving his father in tears in the crowd.

After tea, Faheem Ashraf was caught from behind by Joe Root and Mark Wood took the wicket of Noman Ali, at pound weight not originally given to him by the field umpire.
Ahmed then took the last two wickets, as Muhammad Wasim (2) and Agha Salman (21) were caught as they tried to add a wicket to Pakistan’s lead.
In reply, Crawley and Duckett sacked 87 off 69 balls before wimpy spinner Abrar Ahmed grabbed two late wickets.
Crawley was boxed on a sweep attempt and Rehan Ahmed (10), moved up the order, hitting two edges before turning the ball over and coming clean.

In the morning session it was Leach who made the conquest of the tourists, taking three wickets in six balls.
Pakistan looked to move the scoring quickly at the start of the day, with four from the first ball and 12 from the opening, but were soon forced into a more defensive stance after Leach struck.
His first wicket was Shaan Masood (24), who was bowled by a spinner trying to reverse a sweep of the delivery and was out for 24.
Azhar Ali, the Pakistani batsman, was given a guard of honor by his teammates after his final Test innings as 37-year-old Jack Leach bowled Karachi.
The wicket has brought Azhar Ali to a wrinkle in his recent innings in Test cricket.
The 37-year-old’s debut was short-lived as Leach bowled a four-ball duck and left the field for the honor guard.
Leach quickly added another scalp to his tally, trapping Abdullah Shafik at 26.
Leach’s three came in without scoring a run and saw him edge out Kagiso Rabada of South Africa, who has been the leading Test wicket-taker in 2022.

In addition to taking five wickets, Ahmed hit 10 runs from eight after being promoted to number three in the batting order.
Speaking to Sky Sports Cricket after the stumps, the teenager said: “From not bowling in the first session to taking five wickets is a dream come true.
“I’d love him outside any way, but it was nice to get the ball after three hours. I’d warm up for three hours.”
