A 73-year-old man who killed five people in an apartment building in Canada has claimed that electromagnetic waves in buildings are bad for his health.
Francesco Fili was embroiled in a legal dispute with members of the association responsible for managing the building in Vaughan, Ontario, about 10 miles north of central Toronto.
The names of the victims have not been released, but they are understood to be members of the association.
Fili reportedly went from apartment to apartment looking for his targets on Sunday night before he was shot dead by police.
One victim fighting for life
York Regional Police Chief James McSween described the scene as “horrific”.
Vaughan Mayor Stephen Del Duca expressed condolences to the families of the victims at a news conference Monday and said an injured person was recovering in hospital.
“Everyone is terrified…to wake up to this news this morning, to hear it last night. People are just in utter shock.”
A long-running legal dispute
The killings came against the backdrop of a long-running legal dispute in which Feeley claimed that an electric generator below his apartment had emitted electromagnetic waves that “caused him great pain and suffering over the years,” according to court documents.
Before proceeding with the shooting, Feely posted an angry and distracted video on social media.
He said, “I didn’t have to do this.” “If you give me some comfort in my house, that’s all I want. You’re immodest. They’re criminals. That’s what you are.”
The suit was reportedly initiated by the condominium association, which asked the court to stop Philly from “threatening, intimidating, and harassing” them.
According to the suit, seen by Mail Online, the judge sided with the block management company, dismissing a claim brought by Villi, which, in the video, accused the court of throwing his testimony “into the rubbish”.
The court ordered Villi to pay costs of C$1,833 (£1,103), to stop posting on social media about the dispute and to only communicate with the council in writing.
Rise in mass shootings
While mass shootings are rarer in Canada than in the United States, there is concern about the uptick in recent incidents.
The worst attack in recent years occurred in April 2020, when a gunman disguised as a policeman killed 22 people. This led to a ban on assault weapons the following month.
