A 6.4-magnitude earthquake shook parts of northern California early Tuesday, waking people up, and thousands without power afterward, the US Geological Survey said.
No injuries were reported immediately after the quake, which occurred around 2:34 a.m. near Ferndale, a small community about 213 miles (343 kilometers) northwest of San Francisco.
In the aftermath of the quake, more than 55,000 customers were reported without power in the surrounding area, according to poweroutage.us, which tracks outages across the country.
The quake came just days after a small 3.6-magnitude quake hit the San Francisco Bay Area, waking thousands of people up at 3:39 a.m. Saturday, and causing minor damage.
The epicenter of this earthquake was in El Cerrito, about 16 miles (25 kilometers) drive from downtown San Francisco.
