All sexual assault charges have been dropped against Orange County-born singer-songwriter Rex O’Connor. In a statement posted on his social media channels, the 24-year-old from Hampshire said: “The Crown Prosecution Service has reviewed the evidence and decided that there was no basis in this case to stand trial, and guilty verdicts have been entered on all charges.”

O’Connor noted in his statement that he “has always denied these allegations,” saying, “I have never assaulted anyone nor do I condone violence or abusive behavior of any kind.”

He said that “surveillance camera footage obtained by the police contradicts” his accuser’s version of events, and that the accuser’s partner gave a statement to the police that “did not support” the allegations.

He wrote, “It has been a difficult time for everyone involved and I want to thank the people who helped me through this, as well as my family and loved ones for their continued support.”

O’Connor was initially charged with six counts of sexual assault of a woman, over alleged incidents at the beginning of June. He appeared at Southwark Crown Court in early October and pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The case was due to go to trial on January 3, 2023. Earlier this year, O’Connor canceled a series of tour dates in Europe, Australia and New Zealand, citing “unforeseen personal circumstances” that meant he was “unable to continue with touring as he is”. a plan “.

O’Connor rose to fame after self-releasing music on Bandcamp and Soundcloud. His early recordings caught the attention of American rapper Tyler, the Creator, who flew him to Los Angeles to work on his fourth studio album, Flower Boy. O’Connor was the runner-up in the 2018 BBC Voice poll, teaming up with Randy Newman, Chance the Rapper and Daniel Caesar.
