Airport strikes: Armed forces staff get £20 bonus for border duties | News

Soldiers covering the striking Border Force will receive a bonus of £20 a day after being forced to cancel their Christmas plans.

More than 250,000 passengers arriving at UK airports today have been warned to expect delays due to strikes by 1,000 Border Force personnel, who began their first eight days of strikes at Christmas.

Rishi Sunak said he was disappointed by the industrial strike wave hitting the UK, but said refusing to negotiate public sector salaries was the “right thing” in the long run.

“I want to make sure that inflation is brought down, and part of that is the responsibility when it comes to setting public sector salaries,” the prime minister said on a visit to a homeless person.
