Maxi Jazz, lead singer of the dance group Faithless, has died at the age of 65.

The group wrote on Facebook: “We are sad to say that Maxi Jazz passed away last night. He was a man who changed our lives in so many ways.

“He gave a proper meaning and message to our music.

“He was a lovely human being who had time for everyone and a wisdom that was both profound and accessible. It was an honor and of course a real pleasure to work with him.

“He was a brilliant lyricist, DJ, Buddhist, great stage presence, car lover, endless talker, beautiful person, moral compass and genius.

“Rollo, Sister Place and the E-Type Boy X”.

Sister Bliss added on Twitter: “Sending love to all of you who have shared our musical journey. Take care of each other hear.”

The cause of death was not mentioned.

Faithless formed in 1995 and is perhaps best known for its insomniac trance, We Bring 1.

They’ve headlined some of the biggest festivals in the world, including Glastonbury, and are often seen as political in nature.

Born in Brixton in 1957, Maxwell Fraser has gone on to have an illustrious musical career, both with Faithless and as a solo artist.

In addition to his music, he has also been a lifelong supporter of Crystal Palace FC, and in 2012 he became co-manager of the club.

Crystal Palace said in a statement: “We are saddened by the death of legendary musician Maxi Jazz at the age of 65.

The team will come out to Faithless on Boxing Day in his honor.
