The unions have been accused of complicity over an industrial strike to cause “maximum disruption” to the NHS after the strike was postponed for two weeks.
The GMB union has postponed December 28 from work in England and Wales until January 11. This means that both GMB and Unison ambulance workers – paramedics, phone call technicians and technicians – will strike again at the same time.
One minister said the unions were carrying out a “de facto general strike”.
Steve Barclay, the health and social care secretary, urged them to think again. He said: “While union members will not go ahead with Christmas strikes, we are disappointed that they announced further coordinated strikes in January to create maximum disruption.”
