Vladimir Putin said he “needs to get back to reality” after claiming he was “ready” for Ukraine talks world News

Ukraine said Vladimir Putin “needs to return to reality” in response to the Russian leader’s claim that he is ready to negotiate.

Putin told state broadcaster Rossiya 1 on Sunday: “We are ready to negotiate with all interested parties about acceptable solutions, but it’s up to them – it’s not we who refuse to negotiate, they are.”

Putin says Russia is “ready” for negotiation… The war is the latest

But Mykhailo Podolak, an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, wrote on Twitter: “Putin needs to get back to reality.

Russia attacked Ukraine single-handedly and kills citizens.

There are no other countries, motives and geopolitics.

“Russia does not want negotiations, but it is trying to avoid responsibility.”

Russia lost everything it could this year.

Ten months have passed since Russia launched its all-out invasion of Ukraine.

In the absence of serious peace talks for months, there is little end in sight.

Millions of people in Ukraine are without electricity, due to Russian attacks on the country’s infrastructure.

Zelensky warned his people that Moscow will try to make the last days of 2022 dark and difficult.

“Russia has lost everything it could this year,” he said.

I know that darkness will not prevent us from leading the occupiers to new defeats.

“But we have to be prepared for any scenario.”

Defending our national interests

Ukraine says it will not negotiate until every Russian soldier is out of its territory, while Russia says it will continue to fight until it achieves its goals.

Putin said on Sunday that he believes he is “defending our national interests… protecting our citizens.”

Putin also blames Kyiv and its Western backers for the lack of progress in peace talks, but has made clear that any negotiations must be on his terms.

Ukraine says this would be unacceptable, as it would mean yielding to Russian demands and accepting Putin’s annexation of four Ukrainian regions.

“pretend”

The US State Department has not commented on Putin’s latest offer of talks, but after a similar letter from Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in October, spokesman Ned Price dismissed the Russian approach as “a situation.”

“We do not view this as a constructive and legitimate offer to engage in the dialogue and diplomacy so necessary to see an end to this brutal war of aggression,” he added.
