Piers Morgan’s Twitter account defames Queen and Ed Sheeran in apparent hack | Piers Morgan

Much of the content of Piers Morgan’s Twitter account has been erased, amid reports that it has been hacked.

The 57-year-old former Good Morning Britain (GMB) presenter, who has 8.3m followers on the social media site, had no profile picture, banner photo or posts on Tuesday afternoon. Some tweets with still images and videos remain, as well as recordings of the tweets his account liked.

According to reports, his account overnight posted posts containing false information, racial slurs and offensive messages directed at the late Queen Elizabeth II and singer Ed Sheeran.

It comes after the account of the UK’s Education Secretary, Gillian Keegan, was hacked on Christmas Day. Her account responded to several tweets with links to websites advertising cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin.

Tweets on Keegan’s account began appearing shortly before 7.30pm on Christmas Day, and were sent throughout the evening into the wee hours of Boxing Day.

Last month, the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, wrote to MPs advising them to step up security on their mobile phones with multi-factor verification, as well as updating software and deleting old messages.

The warning came after Russians reportedly hacked into Liz Truss’ phone in the summer when she was foreign secretary and front-runner in the Conservative leadership race.

Morgan’s Instagram account appears to be working normally.

The presenter, who recently joined TalkTV as host of his uncensored show after leaving GMB, has not publicly addressed the apparent hack.

Earlier this month, the Metropolitan Police said no further action would be taken against a man suspected of sending death threats to Morgan and his family online.

On Twitter, Morgan complained that there was a “huge problem with how Big Tech operates its safety measures.”
