Moscow achieves Ukraine’s goals thanks to “patience” – Lavrov

Russia’s foreign minister said on Wednesday that he is convinced Moscow will achieve its goals in Ukraine thanks to its “patience” and “perseverance”.

“I am convinced that thanks to our perseverance, patience and determination, we will defend the noble and vital goals of our people and our country,” Russia’s top diplomat Sergei Lavrov said in an interview broadcast on national television on Wednesday.

He reiterated Moscow’s position that the Kyiv resumption talks must recognize Russia’s annexation of four Ukrainian regions.

“Our absolute priority is four new Russian regions,” Lavrov said. “They must be freed from the threat of Nazism that they have faced for so many years.”

Russia does not currently control the entire regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia, and Lavrov emphasized that this was Moscow’s ultimate goal.

Lavrov said that while Moscow wants the conflict to end, Russia will take its time to achieve its goals on the battlefield.

“We’re not in a hurry,” he said.

“We would like to end this war as soon as possible, which the West was preparing for and, as a result, unleashed against us through Ukraine,” he added.

“We are a patient people. We will protect our fellow citizens, our citizens, and our lands that have been Russian for centuries.”
