The 23-year-old forward will officially complete a move from PSV at the start of the January transfer window, subject to a work permit, to boost Jurgen Klopp’s options in the final third.
Gakpo went through agreed medical and personal terms on Wednesday at the AXA Training Center, where he linked up with his teammate and captain in the Netherlands.
Speaking of Van Dijk’s influence, Jacbo told Liverpoolfc.com exclusively in his first interview: “At the moment I was calling [in] With the coach, he came to the coach’s office and then saw me and we chatted a bit.
“We talked a lot on the phone [in] the last days. What he said to me was that this was the right move for me to develop and become a better player, that the club is a really big, huge club but also like a real family – I think that’s very important as well. For me because I am a family man. He only said good things.
“I’m also happy he’s here, so he can help me out with a few things. I’m really grateful to be here.”
