STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl is still on track for release sometime next year, and developer GSC Game World has released its first trailer in six months, showcasing the gameplay with some narrative motifs along the edges.
Courtesy of IGN, the new video shows that STALKER 2 looks pretty damn good. The narrative-driven shooter set in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in a post-apocalyptic world filled with dangerous mutated monsters. Players must fight their way to the heart of the region while guiding the non-linear plot through choice-based gameplay.
Officially confirmed in 2020 after years of on and off announcements, STALKER 2 has seen turbulent development. After NFT plans were announced and quickly canceled due to fan backlash in December 2021, the project was brought to a screeching halt in February due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, where GSC is headquartered. Many employees have been forced to evacuate their homes in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. Other designers chose city defense. One of the GSC designers who volunteered to fight, Vladimir Yezhov “Fresh”, was recently killed in action.
STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl is set to arrive on Xbox Series X/S (including Game Pass) and PC in 2023. It was one of several titles bitten by a delay bug and pushed to next year, a list you can check out here .
