Today, large-scale strikes are taking place as the New Year approaches.
More than 1,000 Border Force employees belonging to the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union are taking part in an eight-day industrial strike from the holiday period.
The Army was enlisted to mitigate any potential disruption at six airports affected by the strikes.
However, queues appear to be minimal and airports are operating “better than usual” in some areas.
PCS General Secretary Mark Sirotka said: ‘We recognize our measure has the potential to upset travelers, but even as we escalate it before Christmas, we are reminding people that this row can be resolved today if the government puts more money on the table. “
Driving examiners also chose to strike today, which means some tests could be affected.
People have been urged to check the government’s website for more information.
The strike is part of a broader national strike by unions over salaries, pensions, jobs and the terms of layoffs.

National highway workers strike more – as part of widespread strikes between December 16 and January 7.
Warnings were issued of possible delays on the road as a result of the protests.
Those responsible for programming electronic signs that provide information about speed limits and lane closures – who work closely with emergency services to monitor roads – are among the striking employees.
Bus drivers are set to strike tomorrow – New Year’s Eve – with further industrial action striking sectors across Britain’s workforce.
