A PhD student researching criminals has been charged with the murders of four Idaho students

Kohberger was being held for extradition to the State of Idaho on a warrant for first-degree murder according to a suit in the courthouse for Monroe County, Eastern Pennsylvania.

The recording showed Kohberger arrested without bail and due to return to court on Tuesday for an extradition hearing.

The records did not mention the charges for which he was arrested.

His arrest is the first major breakthrough in a case that has shocked the country and appeared to baffle investigators for weeks.

The four students were found at a dorm near the University of Idaho campus sometime in the early morning hours of November 13.

Their multiple wounds indicate that the students were ambushed while they were sleeping.

Two other students were in the house at the time and appeared to be sleeping during the attack.

Frightened students flee the city

Fears of a repeat attack have prompted nearly half of the University of Idaho’s 11,000-plus students to leave the city and turn to online classes.

The first breaking of the case came in early December, after detectives asked the public for help finding a white sedan that had been seen near the students’ home around the time of the killings.

By the next day, the Moscow Police Department had to direct tips to an FBI call center because so many were coming.

A white Hyundai Elantra, the same make and model as the vehicle investigators requested, was pulled from outside Kohberger’s home, NBC News reported.

Goncalves, 21, of Rathdrum, Idaho; Mugen, 21, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; Kernodel, 20, of Post Falls, Idaho; and Chapin, 20, of Conway, Washington, were members of the university’s Greek sorority and sorority system and close friends.

Mogen, Goncalves, and Kernodle rent the three-story student house with two other roommates. Kernodle and Chapin were dating and he was visiting the house that night.
