Two people have been charged with murder and a fight after football player Cody Fisher was stabbed to death in a nightclub on Boxing Day.
Cami Carpenter, aged 21, and Remy Gordon, aged 22, both from Birmingham, were remanded in custody to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court on January 2.
It comes after Mr Fisher, 23, was stabbed just before 11.45pm at the Crane nightclub in Digbeth on 26 December.
A 22-year-old man has been released on suspicion of the murder of Mr Fisher while the police investigation continues.
Four other people who were arrested on suspicion of aiding a criminal were released on bail.
Detective Chief Inspector Ian Ingram of West Midlands Police said: “This is an important development in our investigation as we seek justice for Cody and his family and friends.
“We’ve had great support from the public which has really helped us with our queries so far.
“However, we are still really keen to hear from anyone with information who hasn’t already spoken to us. Every piece of information aids our investigation.”
Mr. Fisher’s colleagues at Stratford Town are said to be mourning his death.
The club’s chairman, Jed McCrory, told Sky News he had requested that his next game, due to be played on Monday away at Bromsgrove Sporting, be cancelled.
He said the club was awaiting a decision from the league to “support the reality of the club’s grief”.
The license of the nightclub where Mr. Fisher was stabbed to death has been suspended.
