One climber was killed and another injured in an avalanche on the north face of Ben Nevis.
Police Scotland said they became aware of the avalanche at around 3.35pm on Friday.
A Lochaber mountain rescue team and a helicopter were dispatched to assist two climbers, amid difficult weather conditions.
A 48-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and a 40-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment.
A spokesman for the rescue team said they were called after being notified of the avalanche and locating the two victims.
They added: “Unfortunately, one of them was fatally injured while the other was seriously injured after sliding 600 meters (approximately).
“With the weather creating some difficult conditions, the helicopter was limited in the assistance it could provide.”
The spokesman said that it took eight hours to transfer the injured to the hospital amid difficult conditions.
