The family of a West London personal trainer who was stalked and shot dead while on holiday in Jamaica has spoken out about their devastation.

Shaun Patterson, 33, from Notting Hill, sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head and upper body at the One Love Villa where he was staying in Bog Hill, St James’s around midday on Monday.

His sister Sarah Wright wrote on social media on Wednesday: “Well here’s one way to start the new year, to find out your baby brother was murdered in Jamaica. To say we are heartbroken is an understatement.

“You will do ikkle (little) justice, my brother.”

Mr. Patterson was standing by a swimming pool at the famous guest house when he was approached by a suspect who pulled out a gun, chased him a short distance and then opened fire.

The Jamaica Police Force said witnesses heard “explosions”. The victim was taken to Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay but was not revived.

A 34-year-old man from Kingston has been arrested.

It is reported that he was deported from the United Kingdom in 2013.

According to the Jamaica Star, Patterson arrived on the Caribbean island on December 29. He is said to have spent three days at a popular apartment complex in Freeport, before booking into the One Love villa. A close friend told the newspaper that the deceased and his friend attended an event on the northern coast of the island on Sunday, and later met the suspect.

The three reportedly traveled to Montego Bay.

NHS worker Nicole Lynch, 38, who grew up with Patterson at Boxmoor House, a block of flats off Queensdale Crescent, told the Standard: “Sean was a lovely young man, an amazing young man. His family is going to be devastated. It’s heartbreaking.” My sister Natasha called to tell me. Shun’s mother was a beautiful lady, and she was very personal when we were growing up.”

Another friend responded to Ms Wright’s Facebook post: “I am so sorry for your loss. I was with him that day and didn’t know this was going to happen. It just breaks my heart.”

“I remember when he was always at my house for all the house parties. I have pictures of him and you… that will stay with me forever.

“So many memories. I will never forget him. May he rest in peace. Sending family blessings, love, healing, health. It wouldn’t be the same without you, SP.”

And the third sent her her “deepest condolences to my Boxmoor family. Shaun ripped.”

Vanessa Wylie said: “There was a time in my life when he was like a little brother to me. I remember him screaming at my window at my mum’s house at some ridiculous morning hours.

“As we got older, I still cared for him, and if I bumped into him, I told him to behave.

“Shawn, I am so sorry for what happened to you. Your heart has always been so big. Rest in peace sweet.”

A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed they were “currently supporting the family of a British man who died in Jamaica and are in contact with local authorities”.

Jamaica has the second highest murder rate per capita in the world, after El Salvador.

About 1,498 were killed last year, up 24 from 2021, out of a total population of 2.8 million, according to the Jamaica Police Force.

St. James, where Mr. Patterson died, was the most violent area with 198 murders.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness recently declared a widespread state of emergency in response to the rise in gang violence.

In October, Jamaica’s broadcast regulator moved to ban music and television content deemed to glorify criminal violence, drugs and weapons.
