Jack Butland will undergo a medical today with Manchester United ahead of his proposed move to the club.
It is understood that the 29-year-old is close to a loan deal at Old Trafford until the end of the season.
United had loaned Newcastle’s Martin Dubravka at the start of the season, but he was called up to return to the north-eastern club earlier this month.
Manager Erik ten Hag has therefore been short of options in the goalkeeping department and Butland now looks set to step in and provide backup to current number 1 David de Gea.
Athletic reported that United were in talks with Palace over a possible move for Butland.
Butland has six months left on his contract with Palace, although the club have the option to extend his contract by another year.
Butland came under consideration at United last summer before Dubravka joined. He also has a home in the Manchester area from his time at Stoke City.
United had considered recalling Dean Henderson from his loan at Nottingham Forest, but the 25-year-old is believed to be best suited to stay at the City Ground.
Ten Hag’s side will be next in action on Friday against Everton in the FA Cup.
