Raducanu is ranked 78th in the world

British top seed Emma Raducano heads to Melbourne, but her prospects for playing in the Australian Open remain unclear.

The full extent of the problem has not yet been diagnosed, but the hope is that it is just a simple strain.

The first major tournament of the year starts on January 16th.

Raducano, the 2021 US Open champion, did not participate in any tournament next week.

She started 2023 by defeating teenager Linda Frohvertova in her opening match in New Zealand in preparation for the first major tournament of the season.

But the world number 78 left the court crying after hurting her ankle during the second set against Slovakian Victoria Kuzmova, 6-0, 5-7. She later criticized the “slippery” courts.

The 2022 season was plagued by an injury to Raducano when she retired from five games, but she said in December that she was “in good shape”.

She reached the second round at the 2022 Australian Open in her tournament debut, losing in three sets to Danka Kovinic.
