A small earthquake with an epicenter 4 km south of Pointe Calumet hit the Montreal area early Saturday morning. According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake registered 2.5 on the Richter scale at a depth of 10.2 km, at 4:59 a.m. EDT. Earthquakes Canada reported the tremor as 2.9 on the Richter Scale, located 17 kilometers west of Montreal.
Banging and shaking was heard and felt across southwest Quebec from Vaudreuil to Laval. I was awake and definitely heard it here on Ile Perrot, but there was no vibration. The distant rumble lasted about 15 seconds. No damage has been reported.
