Chelsea fans’ favorite line-up against Manchester City: The kids are fine

[ad_1]

Chelsea’s next game comes in the FA Cup, and hopefully that means a few minutes for the academy players. We might play Manchester City (again), but there were some positives to take from our recent defeat and they were almost all youth related. It certainly couldn’t get any worse, so let’s do it.

People’s choice

The WAGNH community decided to stick with 4-2-3-1 ahead of 4-3-3 (29%) and 3-4-3 (17%) as has been the trend lately. Edouard Mendy remains out, now with a broken finger as well as a shoulder problem – unfortunately for third-choice Marcos Bettinelli (13%), Kepa remains the overwhelming favourite.

There is some rotation elsewhere, with Thiago Silva (52%) getting a much-needed rest. Trefouh Chalobbe comes in for him and Kalidou Coulibaly joins the defence. Louis Hall and Cesar Azpilicueta are your full-backs, with Mark Cucurella (33%) and the likes of Bashir Humphreys (18%), Alfie Gilchrist (4%), Josh Brooking (4%) and Derek Abu (5%) rotating the coverage.

The brightest spot was definitely Dennis Zacharias on Thursday, so it only makes sense that he’s keeping his spot, this time with Conor Gallagher. Jorginho (34%) and Mateo Kovacic (52%) have all dropped to the bench, along with youngsters Charlie Webster (6%), Ben Elliott (3%) and Deon Rankin (7%).

Carney Chukwuemica was another player who impressed last time out against City and earned the nod alongside another young star in Omari Hutchinson in attack. Hakim Ziyech completes the supporting trio while Kai Havertz continues to lead the line ahead of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (37%). Mason Mountain (11%) excluded; The ranks are filled by Mason Burstow (7%) and Malik Mothersill (5%).

4-2-3-1 (41%) Arrizabalaga (84%) | Hall (75%), Coulibaly (76%), Chalobah (82%), Azpilicueta (60%) | Gallagher (67%) Zachary (81%) | Chukwuemeka (84%), Hutchinson (51%), Ziyech (69%) | Havertz (70%)
