Police are “increasingly concerned” about the care of the newborn boy, who disappeared with his mum and dad three days ago.

Officers are searching for Constance Martin and Mark Gordon, along with their newborn baby, after their car broke down on the M61 near Bolton on Thursday night.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the evidence indicated Ms Martyn “had given birth very recently and neither she nor the baby had been assessed by medical professionals”.

The force released a closed-circuit television image believed to show Ms Martyn wearing a red shawl near Harwich Port in Essex at 9am on Saturday.

The GMP said Ms Martyn was later seen in Colchester, Essex, at around 10am on Saturday – she was last seen.

A police spokesperson said on Sunday: “With three days now to go, officers are becoming increasingly concerned for the welfare of the newborn baby, which is a priority for everyone, and are asking Constance and any member of the public with any information to access her outside to ensure they are safe and well.” .

After their car broke down, the family left the motorway and walked towards the Anchor Lane Bridge, which connects the Highfield and Little Hulton areas.

Mr. Gordon is described as wearing dark clothes while Mrs. Martyn, with a southern accent, wore a burgundy coat. The baby was swaddled.

Essex Police said they were in contact with the GMP to help locate the three people “who urgently want to be found” and officers were conducting an “extensive investigation” of the area.

GMP Chief of Public Protection Michaela Kerr said: “As a mother, I would like to make an appeal directly to Constance.

“Constance, I know this is a very difficult time for you and you are probably feeling scared, but I promise you our first priority is the same as yours – to keep your beautiful newborn safe.

“As you know, it is really important that you and your baby be evaluated by medical professionals as soon as possible, so please call the emergency services or head to the nearest hospital, wherever that may be.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police.
