A strong earthquake struck the eastern part of Indonesia. It initially issued a tsunami warning, which was lifted three hours later.

The 7.6-magnitude earthquake jolted Maluku province early Tuesday morning. The National Disaster Mitigation Agency says more than a hundred homes and at least four schools have been damaged, with one person injured.

Officials say the quake was caused by submersion activity in the Banda Sea. It was followed by at least seven aftershocks ranging in magnitude from 3.8 to 5.7.

The Indonesian government urged people to remain calm and continue their usual activities.

Earthquakes often hit Indonesia. In November, a 5.6-magnitude earthquake in West Java forced more than 100,000 residents to evacuate their homes, and killed more than 600 people.
